My Thoughts
Move over Jamie Fraser there's a new hunk in town!! Wowza!! This book is amazing! If you have never read a Jody Hedlund book then you are in for a treat as this is completely different than the genre she typically writes but she did such an amazing job with it I cannot wait until the next book! When I first read the summary of the book I was excited but a little unsure. I just could not wrap my head around how she was going to develop this story that surrounded itself around the Tree of Life, holy water and ultimate cures. I had an inkling it would have some "Outlander" vibes but boy was it a thousand times better!!
The characters were simply amazing! You truly get immersed in their lives and want to know more. Marian is a research scientist searching for a cure to help her sister who has a very rare disease. It is the same disease that took her mom and so her dad has been obsessed in also finding a cure but he has these crazy theories about the Tree of Life and its seeds and the water that runs through its roots. Is he on the right track? Yeah, you'll have to read it to find out! I won't be divulging any secrets! In the present timeline we also meet Harrison and Jasper whom I hope we see in the following book!
Although the present timeline is intriguing and full of suspense the past time line was my favorite. Here we meet the gorgeous William (seriously totally swoonworthy and more!!) To me this was where the "meat" of the story is at and where all the romance and feels occur. I mean the tension between the two is just....and the kiss!! WOWZA!!! Like I said I won't divulge anything but seriously you need to pick this one up.
I will say this, the romantic scenes at times get a little intense so if this is something that is bothersome to you then be aware that you will encounter them in this book. If I had to give it a movie rating I would consider this a PG-13... so I would definitely not recommend this for a tween or even an immature teen quite just yet.
Overall I thought this was an excellent story. It was full suspense, mystery, intrigue and all the romance! Jody Hedlund has done a wonderful job with this story. She truly has taken you on a journey to two different worlds and timelines and her descriptions of the settings truly help you picture everything like you are there. The theme of sacrifice and love is prevalent throughout the story. I think there could've been a bit more mention of Christianity but overall it was good. If you enjoy dual timelines, time travel or are a fan of Outlander then this is the book for you! I cannot wait to read more about these characters in the next one. Now I have to wait in anticipation until in comes out!
