"Before the Foundation of the World" examines the nature of good and evil in God’s creation. Using poetry and song lyrics, this collection offers a celebration of joy in response to God’s covenant with man. From Christmas poems to simple lullabies, the author paints a vivid picture of the incredible experience of wonder in a world of God’s design. An extended exchange in Appendix I with “The Father of Lies” (“Pater Mendaciorum”) and the promises of Christian faith reflects our reconciliation with God and explores the redemption of mankind in the face of radical evil. Journeying from the psychology of evil to the good news of the spirit, "Before the Foundation of the World" speaks to the ways of God, embodying gratitude and love as the foundation for mature Christian belief.
My Thoughts
I don't know too much about poetry. It wasn't a subject in school that I ever fell in love with. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading pieces of poetry but I cannot claim that I am proficient in it, however Susan has a gift for it. She has crafted a beautiful poetry book in which she expresses her extreme love for God. You can tell this with every page and word you read. I love that the book has different types of poems as well. She has written some for Lent, Christmas and even some Lullabies which I found to be my favorite.
I recommend you grab this book and add it to your bookshelves, especially if you are a lover of poetry. It is not a very big book 37 pages total but I promise you will enjoy it. It would be a great addition to your Bible study time as well. If you are a homeschool family with high schoolers studying Poetry this would also be a great addition and a great tool to study poetry especially with a Christian perspective and solid background. It will make for a great study tool.
My Rating: 5 Stars/I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
My Favorite Quotes/Musings:
This is from Lullaby III:
"For nothing's like God's love, His sun's golden ray.
No, nothing's like God's love, That breaks like the day."

About the Author
In love with the seventeenth century, Susan Weiner has written two books of poetry inspired by the history and literature of that period.
Before the Foundation of the World is a book of formal poetry asking us to fall in love with God all over again. Poems that recall the Renaissance literature of England speak to the nature of good and evil in God's wonderous creation.
Pirates and Spooks, Beware! follows the rambunctious pirates of history, with a tiny dose of scary stories in store. For children, ages 7-12 and up, young readers and their parents will find they may appreciate the value of verse once more.
The author's hobbies are studying ancient history and knitting. See her website at Susanweinerbooks.com for much more information on and sneak peaks inside her books.
